BLOCK 7 & WISHES QUILT ALONG

BLOCK 7

Finally we get the opportunity to work together in Lynne's new craft room.  It looks great and set up is perfect for us.

Our first job today was a trip to spotlight as I unfortunately or fortunately forgot my cutting board.  It was decided with a push from my hubby to go and buy a new one that I could leave in the craft room.   This was a great idea as I hate having to transport my board.

So after a successful shopping trip we started on block 7 this one was one of the more straight forward blocks,  I dare not say easy because none of them are really easy just more "straight forward".  It all went together very well and we are both happy with the finished result and with the performance of the new room.

BLOCK 7

"WOMAN AT WORK"

 After a very yummy lunch and a short break it was into our new project "Wishes Quilt Along".  First job with this one was to set up Lynne's laptop to play through the TV, we are not always super good at IT but we got it working quite easily. We could then watch the You Tube video from Kimberly at Fat Quarter Shop describing the requirements and the making of the first block.

Then it was time to start, this is always a little daunting with something totally new and the backing material was such a big piece :-/ but we managed to get it all cut.  Although I had some very frustrating problems with the measurements on my new mat and cut TWO squares wrong.  Now of course I hope that I have enough materials left for the rest of the blocks. "We can always order more" is my favourite saying :-)

We were very happy with the finished product and it was time for a swim and dinner with the family.

Its great to be back into quilting after a busy Christmas/New Year break, and we are looking forward to our next day.

NEW PROJECT

WISHES QUILT ALONG KIT

We couldn't resist this new project which we ordered sometime last year from the Fat Quarter Shop.  The material has started to arrive and the patterns are downloaded from their website monthly along with a great little video on how to complete the each block.

With some luck we will be able to start this one this weekend along with our usual block of the month.  Fingers crossed that it all arrives on time.

NEW HOME

It's been a while since I posted but the "Festive Season" has taken up most of our time and we have done very little in the way of sewing but its over now and we are about to get back at it.

Scattered Pins and Scraps now has a home of its own.  Lynne has converted one of her spare rooms into a craft room.  Its will be so much easier for us now with a place set aside where we can spread our "stuff" around.

BLOCK 6

Its been a while!!

Well its been a couple of months since we added to this blog unfortunately I have been very busy most weekends so we had to squeeze in a Block day when we could which was the last day of November.  But block 6 arrived on time and we had a quilting day.  This one is a really lovely Star block.  I like these!, they are fairly simple to complete but fun and look great.

As usual after your block was finished we moved on to other projects.  Lynne to another Rag quilt she has two to make for Christmas Presents so she will be busy.  I made a lovely apron for my son's girlfriend which was quite challenging for me but with Lynne's help I managed to work out the pattern and change it a little to suit amount of material I had.  I am very happy with the results.

Of course there is always happy hour and dinner and a spa.

Christmas is upon us so our next quilting won't be until next year and may that will need to be a double block day.  We will see.   Looking for some new projects to try out next year.

DEAR JANE

SO MUCH TO LEARN

I have been doing some more online research and we have so much more to learn.  In researching Foundation Paper Piecing I came across "Dear Jane"   This is a quilt done in the 1800's by  Jane A. Blakely Stickle.  Its an amazing quilt and the patterns are available on the web site www.dearjane.com I have ordered the book and am hoping to get us started on the "The Two Hundred Twenty-Five Patterns".  Maybe this will be our retirement project :-)

In the mean time I think we need to at least try Foundation Paper Piecing and maybe take some classes in quilting as most of what we have done has been from what we learnt online and from asking questions and there is so much more to learn about quilting.

 

BLOCK 5

IT FINALLY ARRIVED !

Well after an anxious week where Lynne's Block 5 arrived and mine didn't and some correspondence with the Fat Quarter Shop mine finally arrived on Friday just in time for an extra quilting day on Saturday.

Although this one looked quite complicated it turned to be fun to do as long as we followed the instructions and we were both very happy with the results.

My son gave me a mini iron for my birthday and this was our first time using it. I am very happy with it saves some walking back and forwards to the ironing board between seams.

Block 5

 

 

After our block was finished we each moved onto different projects.    Lynne started on a Scrappy bag. Mine was a rag quilt my hubby requested for the dog's bed, as it was quite small I had it put together by  dinner time. I am sure there will be photos to follow when both these projects are finished.

 

There is always a happy hour on quilting days.

NO BLOCK DAY!

NO BLOCK ON QUILTING DAY.

Well it  happened our block 5 didn't arrive on time for the allotted day. Disaster !!  Well not really we can always find something else to do.  We both have several projects ready to start not to mention I have at least 1 under construction.  So today it was a trip to the Craft Depot to check it out, although Lynne has been there several times I hadn't been there. So after some morning tea we toddled off. It's a great shop full of all sorts of quilting stuff!.  We both made some purchases and set off back home to start a new project. 

Our project in the afternoon was another pattern I found online called  "Snap to it"  A cute little bag made from a 10" square and some pieces of a retractable tape measure used to close it.  As always these projects are a bit confusing the first time and after some deciphering of the instructions, re reading and some unpicking to round off the edges of the tape which was quite sharp they were finished just in time for "Happy Hour"  

Today was also the opening of Lynne and Hubby's pool for the summer season so a swim was in order before a yummy dinner.
